KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Illinois State track and field teams wrapped up competition Saturday at the 44th-annual Sea Ray Relays and came away several top-five finishes on Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.

A limited number of Redbird athletes competed on the final day of action, but ISU assistant coach Jeff Bovee was pleased with the day's results.

"I think everyone on the trip this weekend came ready to compete this weekend," Bovee said. "Our relays were pretty solid today and our throwers all had good weekends. It was also nice to compete in some beautiful weather down here and against some great competition from the SEC and at a great venue. This was a good stepping stone for us and we continue to progress each week. I look forward to seeing how we do next week against another tough field at Louisville."

Women's throwers Brittany Smith and Tori Ziegler both had solid days for the Redbirds. Smith set a new personal-best in the shot put with a distance of 51'01.75" to finish in third place and Ziegler recorded a mark of 48'01.25" to secure a fifth-place finish. The duo also fared well in the discus invitational, with Smith placing second with a distance of 163'06" and Ziegler was seventh with a throw of 155'09". Leigh Petranoff also fared well in the javelin, with a mark of 147'04" to place third overall in a tough field.

On the track, the lone competitor for ISU was the women's distance medley relay team of Aisha Praught, Alia McAfee, Michelle Brunk and Jess Husted. The quartet ran to a third-place finish in the event with a time of 11:52.14 to cap off the weekend for women's team.

The men's relay teams also fared well against some tough competition Saturday. The 4x800-meter relay team of Yosef Tewolde, Mat Smoody, John Neisler, and Steve Regan ran to a second-place finish with a time of 7:37.07. The team of Jon Roberts, Tyler Knight, Blake Brooks and Scott Krapf also ran a solid race in the distance medley relay, finishing seventh in a time of 10:16.11.

In the field, Tim Glover continued his consistent spring and finished in fifth place in the javelin event with a time of 224'04" and Drew Holl placed seventh in the high jump with a height of 6'08.75". Rounding out the action were Patrick Trofimuk and Colin Fane in the hammer throw. Trofimuk placed 17th with a throw of 165'10" and Fane was close behind in 19th place with a heave of 147'11".

Illinois State returns to action Friday, April 16, at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational hosted by Louisville at Cardinal Park.
