On another soggy day in central Wisconsin, the Illinois State women's golf team shot its best round of the tournament en route to a third-place finish at the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wis.
"We had a huge comeback in rough conditions of high winds and driving rains," head coach Darby Sligh said. "We held it together and put down the low round of the day, including nine birdies to move into third place. We need to continue this momentum going into next weekend. This team continues to improve and impress me."
Junior Katie Jean, who started the final round in fifth position, was able to pick up right where she left off and finish fifth by shooting a 6-over-par in the final round to give her a three-round score of 228(75-75-78). This weekend's top five finish makes two consecutive top five finishes for Jean who finished fourth at the Redbird Invitational earlier this month.
Sophomore Brianna Cooper finished the third round 4-over-par to finish in a tie for 10th overall, and carded a three-round score of 233(78-79-760). Sophomore Rachel Powers turned in her best round of the tournament to finish tied for 18th with a total of 235(79-79-77). Sophomore Jordyn Wyzgowski finished Monday with a 3-over-par performance putting her in a tie for 26th with a three-round total of 239(84-80-75). Senior Hannah Bachman also finished strong, tying for 28th position, after firing a three-round score of 240(78-81-81). Competing as an individual, sophomore Carlee Cossell finished in a tie for 42nd after her best round of the tournament in the final round, putting her at a final of 254(86-86-82).
The Redbirds hit the links again at the Jonnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo., next Monday and Tuesday, playing at the Club at Old Hawthorne.
