Johnson Joins Illinois State Track & Field Team

Jan. 18, 2012

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's track & field team welcomed mid-season addition Printassia Johnson to their roster Wednesday. Johnson hails from Nassau, Bahamas, and will compete in the short sprint events for the Redbirds.

Head track & field coach Elvis Forde looks forward to the early contributions Johnson will make.

"After seeing some of her previous performances, I can say that she is one of the better sprinters that have joined our team since I started here in 2002," said Forde. "The expectations for her are high as we hope she can sure up our short sprints, mainly the 60- and 100-meter dashes. Judging by her first few workouts, the skill is there, but how quick she can adjust and get acquainted with the conditions and facilities will be key. She brings confidence and flair to our sprinters group and will be a special addition when it is all said and done."

While attending Queens College, a high school in the Bahamas, Johnson competed in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, holding personal-best times of 11.70 and 24.54, respectively. She placed third in the 100-meter dash at the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) CARIFTA Games Trials with a time of 11.96. She followed that up with a 24.65 in the 200-meter dash, taking second place.

Johnson and the team travel to Madison, Wis., this weekend to compete in the Elite Invitational.
