Illinois State Finishes Hoya Invitational in 10th Place

Illinois State's juniors led the team the entire way.

BEALLSVILLE, Md. - The Illinois State women's golf team concluded the Hoya Invitational with a team score of 659 (333-326), finishing the tournament 10th overall at the at The Members Club at Four Streams Tuesday.

Head coach Darby Sligh reflected on her teams play and is optimistic going forward into the Missouri Valley Conference Championships.

"We needed to have someone break through for us, and it just didn't happen Tuesday," Sligh said. "The next three weeks are aimed towards fixing our scoring woes and doing it consistently."

Illinois State's juniors led the team the entire way, as redshirt junior Brianna Cooper carded a two-round score of 162 (81-81), tying her for 31st overall. Junior Hayley Guyton, who shot a combined score of 164 (83-81), was only two strokes behind Copper and six strokes ahead of junior Lauren English, who shot a 168(84-84).

Seniors Rachel Powers and Jordyn Wyzgowski both tied for 53rd place with a score of 169, with only a seven-stroke disparity between them and Cooper.

Pennsylvania was able to keep its lead and win the tournament with a two-round score of 607 (309-298). Big Ten powerhouse Michigan took second with a score of 611 (313-298), while Yale rounded out the top-three teams with a 620 (314-306).

Look for the Redbirds to return to action Sunday, April 20, in Springfield, Ill., for the MVC Championship.
