NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State track and field and cross country program signed five more to National Letters of Intent, as announced by director of track and field and cross country Jeff Bovee Wednesday.
The new Redbirds who signed their NLIs to continue their athletic and academic careers at Illinois State University include Austin Corydon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), Logan Zeman (LaSalle, Ill./LaSalle-Peru), Elise Anderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Hopkins) and DeAsia Garrett (Richton Park, Ill./South Dakota).
Corydon comes to ISU as Illinois' seventh ranked hurdler and a top-10 state finisher. A hurdle specialist and a four-year letterwinner in track and field, Corydon was named to the All-Conference team in both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles in 2013 and 2014.
Zeman joins the Redbirds from LaSalle-Peru, where he was a three-sport athlete in football, basketball and track and field. He was the News Tribune men's track and field athlete of the year to accompany his honor as the track team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) his senior year. During his senior campaign, he was the indoor top-times champion and capped off his senior year as the Class 2A state champion in the high jump. Zeman is the second state champion in LaSalle-Peru's history.
Garrett is a transfer from South Dakota where she was an eighth-place finisher in the 400-meter sprint and helped her 4x100-meter relay team place fourth in the Summit League outdoor championships. Garrett will add experience to a talented group of sprinters and will look to help the Redbirds immediately in the short sprints.
A Minnesota native, Anderson brings depth and experience at high level-meets to the short sprints group. Anderson posted top-10 times in her native state, running 12.14 in the 100-meter, 25.02 in the 200-meter, and will look to add the 400-meter to her inventory during her college career.
For more information on the rest of the recruiting class see releases from Feb. 19, and June 16.
