COLUMBIA, MO. – The Illinois State women's golf team tied for 10th place in the final round of play Tuesday at the Johnie Imes Invitational with a team score of 911 (311-303-297).
Head coach Darby Sligh was happy with the final round of play.
"We finally had a total senior breakthrough, which is exactly what we needed" Sligh said. "We got better every single day and that's all I ever ask of any of our players. We have a lot of work to do, but we are heading in the right direction."
All three senior Redbirds had amazing performances throughout the tournament. Hayley Guyton led the redbirds tying for 30th place firing 1-under-par in the second round and par in the final round, giving her a final score of 222 (79-71-72). Lauren English also had a stellar final round, shooting par and carding a three-round score of 226 (77-77-72). Brianna Cooper shot five birdies in the third round, carding a three-round score of 227 (77-75-75). Sophomore Maggie Ambrose shot 6-over-par in the first and third rounds for a final score of 236 (78-80-78), while freshman Abby Luchtenburg finished the tournament with a final score of 247 (80-84-83).
Freshman Kiley Walsh competed as an individual and finished the tournament with a three-round score of 238 (77-82-79).
Missouri kept the first place lead and won the Invitational with a team score of 846 (282-280-284), with Kansas State not far behind in second place with a team score 850 (280-285-285). Finishing out the top-three teams was MTSU with a team score of 862 (290-291-281).
The Redbirds will take the course again in their final tournament of the fall season, October 17, at the three-day Hoosier Fall Invitational.
