Redbirds Dominate against IPFW, Chicago State Saturday

FORT WAYNE, Indiana – The Illinois State men's tennis team swept its two matches on Saturday to push its record back to an even .500. The Redbirds defeated IPFW, 6-1, and Chicago State, 7-0.

"We had a good day sweeping two scrappy teams," said head coach Mark Klysner. "Our doubles was strong again today and I think it helped the singles matches in which we played a little more relaxed."

The Redbirds (3-3) came out red-hot to start the day. Led by juniors Jakub Eisner and Rolando Torrellas, the duo contributed to winning the doubles point while also recording individual singles victories. Junior Rodrigo Oliveira, sophomore Urh Krajnc Domiter, and freshman Andreas Boers also nabbed singles wins against IPFW.

The momentum carried over into ISU's next match against Chicago State, where the team won all of the possible points. Eisner and Torrellas teamed up for another doubles victory while sophomore Dylan Steffens and freshman Christoffer Greve sealed the doubles point with the duo's second win on the day, 7-6.

The Redbirds also played well in singles matches against Chicago State, with senior Jacob Wilson, Krajnc Domiter, Oliveira, Torrellas, Boers, and Greve all contributing to a 7-0 victory over the Cougars. 

The Redbirds will be back in action next Saturday for their home opener at Evergreen Racquet Club as they take on Illinois Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
