NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team is heading to Pinehurst, North Carolina, to compete in the Pinehurst Challenge Monday and Tuesday. The tournament, hosted by College of Charleston, will take place at No. 1 Course.
The tournament will consist of three rounds with par set at 72. Monday will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CT) with 36 holes of continuous play. The tournament's final round on Tuesday starts at 7:30 a.m. (CT) with a shot gun start.
Illinois State Head Coach, Darby Sligh has a positive outlook on the upcoming tournament.
"This week at Pinehurst will be a perfect opportunity for us to put the past behind us and look towards the future," Sligh said. "We have had a quick, but positive turnaround from Nebraska, and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do as a team."
Competing for the Redbirds are sophomore Kiley Walsh, senior Courtnee Cossell, junior Maggie Ambrose, freshman Caitlin Simms, and junior Renee Solberg.
Emerging as a leader for ISU this season is Kiley Walsh, who has led the Redbirds on the individual leaderboard in each of their previous three tournaments. At the Chip-N Club Invitational, Kiley tied for 24th by shooting rounds of 76-78-76 for an individual score of 230.
The Redbirds will be facing 19 teams, including College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Elon, High Point, Iowa, Marshall, Maryland, Morehead State, Nebraska, North Florida, Old Dominion, Penn State, Samford, UNCG, Western Carolina and William & Mary.
