NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team will head to Kiawah Island, S.C., to compete in the largest collegiate golf tournament at the Kiawah Island Invitational Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days, 18 holes each day. The first two days of the event will start with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CST), and the third day's event will begin with an 8 a.m. (CST) shotgun.
The tournament will be played on two courses throughout the weekend: Osprey point (par 72, 5,964yards) and Oak point (par 72, 5,901 yards) both located in the Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
Head coach Darby Sligh is ready to see her team back in action for the spring season and can't wait to see what the team brings to the course this weekend.
"After a month of indoor preparation following the Illinois Challenge, we are more than ready to compete this weekend," Sligh said. "We have seen progress, and I cannot wait to see the team transfer its hard work to the course. This is a massive event with 40 teams, so it will be important to strike early and keep pressing."
Competing for the Redbirds will be seniors Hayley Guyton, Brianna Cooper and Lauren English. Rounding out the Redbird line-up will be freshman Kiley Walsh and sophomore Maggie Ambrose.
Illinois State will compete against 39 other teams across all conferences, including Ball State, Bethune-Cookman, Boston College, Boston University, Bucknell, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, The citadel, College of Charleston, Delaware, Elon, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgetown, High Point, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Longwood, Loyola, Marshall, North Florida, Presbyterian, Radford, Richmond, Rutgers, Samford, SCAD, Seton Hall, South Alabama, St. John's, Stetson, Towson, Troy, UNCG, USC Beaufort, U.S. Naval Academy, USC Upstate, western Carolina, Western Kentucky and William & Mary.
