NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team will host Eastern Illinois in the home-opener of the spring season Saturday, February 7 at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, beginning at 3 p.m. The following day, the Redbirds will be on the road in Indianapolis to battle Butler at the Butler Bubble, starting at 3 p.m.
"We are really excited to play in front of our home crowd," said head coach Maja Kovacek. "I expect both matches this weekend to be extremely competitive. We need to make sure we have a lot of energy and that we execute well in doubles. "
Eastern Illinois is off to a 1-1 overall record after earning a win over Dayton and suffering a defeat by Indiana. Previously, the Redbirds have challenged the Panthers over the last 14 seasons, claiming victory each time up until last year, 4-3, during the 2013-14 season.
Butler remains at a 1-5 overall record after a win over South Dakota State and defeats against Duquesne, Louisville, SIUE and Akron. ISU has battled Butler for the past ten seasons with, ISU winning, 7-0 last season. Currently, the Redbirds hold an 0-2 overall record after setbacks to No. 46 Illinois and IPFW.
The Evergreen Racquet Club is located at 3203 E. Washington St., Bloomington, Illinois.
