NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team will head to Rio Verde, Arizona, to compete in the 13th-Annual Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days, 18 holes each day. The first day of the event will have a shotgun start, beginning at 2 p.m. (CST), and the last two days will begin with a 9 a.m. (CST) shotgun start.
The tournament will be played at the Rio Verde Country Club on the par-72, 6,215 yards White Wing Course.
"This is the start of a three-week stretch for us leading up to the conference tournament," head coach Darby Sligh said. "After seeing so many positives, we can only plan to build on those and continue putting together solid rounds. We were able to work through some mental game issues we had at the Kiawah Island Invitational. So, I was excited for us to put those tools to use."
Competing for the Redbirds will be seniors Hayley Guyton, Brianna Cooper and Lauren English. Rounding out the Redbird line-up will be freshman Kiley Walsh and sophomore Renee Solberg.
Seventeen teams are returning from last year's Rio Verde invitational with first timer Seton Hall joining the 2015 field. Illinois State will compete against Akron, Arkansas-Little Rock, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Missouri-Kansas City, Northern Arizona, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Seton Hall, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Toledo, Western Michigan and Xavier, as well as Missouri Valley Conference opponents Bradley, Missouri State and Wichita State.
