NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team will head to Maumelle, Arkansas, to compete in the UALR/Arkansas State Invitational at the Maumelle Country Club Monday and Tuesday. The 54-hole tournament will be three rounds over two days, two rounds (36-holes) Monday and the final round (18-holes) will be played Tuesday. Both days of play will have a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (CST). The tournament will be played on Maumelle Country Club's par-72 course that sits on 6,133 yards.
The weather conditions in Arkansas have not been ideal, with heavy snow and rain lately, but the snow has melted and the course is playable. Further weather announcements will be made when the tournament is underway.
Head coach Darby Sligh is excited about the competition at this weekend's tournament and is ready to see the underclassmen bring in strong numbers.
"This event gives us a new opportunity to put things together," Sligh said. "We will see quite a few MVC teams, which will be nice looking ahead to the conference championship. Our line-up is showing some youth, which is exciting. We have a few underclassmen that showed big things during practice this week, and I'm looking forward to watching them continue to grow and lead us."
Competing for the Redbirds will be sophomore Renee Solberg, freshmen Kiley Walsh and Abby Luchtenburg, along with seniors Hayley Guyton and Lauren English. Rounding out the Redbird line-up is sophomore Maggie Ambrose, who will be competing as an individual.
Illinois State will compete against 12 other schools, including, Arkansas State, Missouri State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, Stephen F. Austin, UAB, UCA, UMKC, UTEP, Western Michigan, and Wichita State.     Â
