MAUMELLE, Ark. – The Illinois State women's golf team climbed the leaderboard to 12th place on the final day of the UALR/ASU Women's Golf Classic Tuesday, with a team score of 963 (328-324-311), on the Maumelle Country Club Course.
Senior Lauren English climbed the individual leaderboard by improving her game each round. English led the Redbirds with a three-round score of 228 (78-76-74), shooting a 2-over-par in the final round and finishing tied for 11th place.
Head coach Darby Sligh was proud of the performances.
"Tuesday was a step in the right direction," Sligh said. "I am excited to work hard the next few weeks leading up to the MVC Championship. I know there are still big things ahead with this group."
Freshman Kiley Walsh improved during the final round shooting a 5-over-par, finishing with a three-round score of 242 (81-84-77). Freshman Abby Luchtenburg, sophomore Renee Solberg and senior Hayley Guyton improved as well in the final round all shooting an 8-over-par, ending the tournament with 246 (85-81-80), 248 (84-84-80) and 250 (87-83-80), respectively.
After the final day of play, Central Arkansas held onto first place with a team score of 907 (296-302-309), while Arkansas-Little Rock moved up to second place with a team score of 907 (303-302-302). Oral Roberts rounded out the top-three teams with a final score of 913 (302-301-310).
The Redbirds take the course one last time as they compete at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Burlington, Iowa, beginning April 19.
