PEORIA, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team fell short to Missouri Valley Conference foe Bradley, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at the David Markin Courts.
In singles competition, freshman Catherine Shulman defeated Bradley's Ashley Thai in a third-set tie-breaker, 7-6, 2-6, 5-2, in No. 4 singles, while freshman Valerija Gercar claimed victory over Bradley's Cassia Wojtalik, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 5 singles. Meanwhile, sophomore Natalia Parchowska earned the third Redbird point after beating Bradley's Carly Miles, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 6 singles.
In No. 1 singles, Kadi Ilves forced a third-set tie-breaker against Bradley's Ariel Dechter, before eventually falling, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. In No. 2 singes, freshman Donna Haycock suffered a defeat by Bradley's Alexa Brandt, 6-2, 6-3, while sophomore Chanel Scudiero fell to Bradley's Aimee Manfredo, 7-5, 6-4, in No. 3 singles.
In doubles competition, Bradley won two of three matches to earn the point. The duo of Parchowska and Gercar earned a win over Bradley's Miles and Wojtalik, 8-2, in No. 3 doubles. Meanwhile, Bradley's Brandt and Thai topped Ilves and Haycock, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles, and Scudiero and Shulman were defeated by Bradley's Dechter and Manfredo, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles.
The Redbirds will wrap up the regular season this Saturday, April 18, by battling Evansville in Evansville, Indiana, followed by the season-finale Sunday, April 19 against Southern Illinois in Carbondale, Illinois. The MVC Team Championships will begin April 24 in Evansville, Indiana.
