NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team will compete in the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, Sunday through Tuesday, at the par-72 Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa.
Head coach Darby Sligh knows what needs to be done to take home the title.
"After such an emotional few weeks, and the loss of one of our biggest fans and sport administrators, we are extremely focused in this championship and what it means to bring home a win to the Redbird nation," Sligh said. "There is a sense of calm during our practice round, as we work around the golf course. We need to work our plan and come out with a presence. If we can do these things throughout the next three days, we should have an opportunity to compete for a title."
The line-up for the Redbirds this year consists of seniors Hayley Guyton, Lauren English and Brianna Cooper. Freshman Kiley Walsh and sophomore Renee Solberg will round out the line-up.
According to a pre-championship poll of league coaches, Missouri State has been picked to win the championship, while Wichita State is predicted to take second. MSU received nine first-place votes, while WSU collected one. Illinois State is expected to be in third at the end of the tournament. Indiana State and Bradley are expected to round out the top five, respectively.
The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days, 18 holes being played each day. Each day will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. (CST).
