NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team is set to host its first two Missouri Valley Conference matches of the season against Drake and Northern Iowa after a two-week layoff.
Friday's match versus Drake will be held indoors at the Evergreen Racquet Club, beginning at 2 p.m. The following day, the Redbirds will head outdoors to the Gregory Street Tennis Courts to host Northern Iowa Saturday, April 4, beginning at 1 p.m.
"We had a great two weeks of practice, and we're excited to begin conference play at home this week," said head coach Maja Kovacek. "We will need to compete extremely well to win against Drake and UNI."
ISU is looking to rebound this weekend after eight-consecutive losses. The Redbirds remain 2-11 overall after earning wins over Butler and Indianapolis earlier in the season. Drake is 15-4 overall and 1-0 in the MVC after beating UNI. Last season, Drake topped Illinois State, 6-1.
UNI is currently 10-5, and 0-1 in the MVC. The Panthers defeated ISU last season, 6-1.
The indoor match is located at the Evergreen Racquet Club: 3203 E. Washington St., Bloomington, Illinois. The outdoor match is located at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts: in Normal, Illinois.
