ST. LOUIS – Illinois State seniors Lauren English and Hayley Guyton have been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team, as announced by the league office Friday. English was named to the first team with six other golfers, while Guyton was an honorable mention selection.
English, a management major with a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (GPA), competed in all 28 rounds this season. English holds a scoring average of 78.6. She had her best tournament at the Johnie Imes invitational, shooting par in the final round and carding a season-low three-round score of 226 (77-77-72). During the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, English improved her game each round and ended with a final score of 243 (83-82-78), finishing tied for 23rd place on the individual leaderboard.
Guyton, a marketing major with a 3.62 cumulative GPA, also competed in all 28 rounds this season. Guyton holds a scoring average of 80.1 through 28 rounds this year. She had her best tournament at the Johnie Imes invitational, when she led the Redbirds during both days of play. Guyton tied for 30th place firing 1-under-par in the second round and par in the final round, giving her a final score of 222 (79-71-72). During the MVC Championship, Guyton improved her game each round and ended with a final score of 241 (84-79-78), finishing tied for 18th place on the individual leaderboard.
Nominees for the MVC Scholar-Athlete team must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA on a 4.00 scale. The student-athletes must have reached sophomore status academically and athletically, while competing in 50 percent of their team's rounds or having played in the MVC Championships.
The Illinois State women's golf will return for the 2015-16 season in September.
