NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team will resume competition at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Missouri, Monday and Tuesday. The tournament, hosted by Missouri, will consist of 36 holes Monday followed by 18 holes Tuesday.
ISU's last competition was the Redbird Invitational, which it hosted on its home course, the Weibring Golf Club. The Redbirds finished sixth overall with a score of 929 (303-317-309), and sophomore Kiley Walsh led the Redbirds with a third-place individual finish at 6-over-par and a score of 222, after rounds of 76-74-72.
Head coach Darby Sligh feels the Redbirds are ready to return to action after their brief break from competition.
"We have had two weeks to reflect, recharge, and prepare for this event after our home opener," Sligh said. "This time was invaluable in working towards our long-term goals. It's time for us to put on paper what we have been working on and showing that we can make a statement in a deep field this week."
The Redbirds will take on 17 teams, including Akron, Arkansas State, Bradley, Coastal Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida International, Iowa, Kansas State, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Missouri State, Mizzou, Rutgers, UALR, UMKC, USF and Wichita State.
Representing the Redbirds will be senior Courtnee Cossell, junior Renee Solberg, sophomores Abby Luchtenburg and Walsh and freshman Caitlin Sims.
