COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Illinois State women's golf team sits in 16th place at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Missouri, after the first two rounds of play Monday. The Redbirds shot a two-round score of 609 (305-304) at The Club at Old Hawthorne.
Kiley Walsh led the Redbirds through two rounds of play, finishing even on the day with a 144 (72-72), tying for 14th on the individual leaderboard. Caitlin Sims ended the day on a high note, firing a 1-over-par 73 at the end of the second round. Sims carded a two-round score of 149 (76-73) and is tied for 41st place.
"Monday was mixed with ups and downs," head coach Darby Sligh said. "Overall, I saw us string together more good than bad, but the bad holes certainly held us back today. Great rounds by Kiley and Caitlin were our key. Tuesday will be about how quickly we can bounce back."
Courtnee Cossell sits in a tie at 82nd place with a day one score of 159 (78-81). Abby Luchtenburg shot a two-round score of 160 (82-78), while Renee Solberg has a 162 (79-83) heading into the final round of play.
Missouri sits at the top of the leaderboard with a total score of 549 (280-269) with a convincing 19-stroke lead. MTSU is in second with a team score of 568 (282-286), while Iowa rounds out the top-three teams with a two-round score of 571(282-289). All of the top-three teams fired under-par scores after two rounds. Mizzou's Jess Meek sits at the top of the individual leaderboard with a total score of 134 (67-67) after day one.
The Johnie Imes Invitational concludes Tuesday, beginning at 8:30 a.m., with a shotgun start.
