NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team sits in fifth place at the Redbird Invitational after playing the first two rounds of the tournament Sunday at Weibring Golf Club.
Bradley and Bowling Green are tied for the tournament lead, eight strokes ahead of the Redbirds. Evansville's Kayla Katterhenry holds the individual lead at 2-over-par after firing rounds of 75-71.
Kiley Walsh led Illinois State Saturday, shooting rounds of 76-74, to finish the day 6-over-par and tied for fifth place. Illinois State's Courtnee Cossell (76-78) is tied for 17th place and Caitlin Sims (73-82) has a share of 23rd. Renee Solberg (79-83) is tied for 60th and Abby Luchtenburg (78-85) is tied for 62nd.
Maggie Ambrose (80-85) is tied for 75th and Leia Atas (90-87) has a share of 89th place.
"I'm extremely proud of our start today," said Illinois State head coach Darby Sligh. "We led most of the morning and finished round one with a two-shot lead. We lost our legs in the afternoon heat and just couldn't get anything going. Caitlin and Kiley held us together with help from Courtnee, and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can put together tomorrow."
The Redbird Invitational concludes with the third and final round Monday at Weibring Golf Club. The shotgun start is set for 8:30 a.m.
