NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team took sixth place at the Redbird Invitational Monday at Weibring Golf Club. Kiley Walsh led the Redbirds with a third-place individual finish at 6-over-par, after rounds of 76-74-72.
Bowling Green won the tournament, which started with two rounds on Sunday, topping both Northern Illinois and Bradley by eight strokes. Evansville's Kayla Katterhenry earned medalist honors at 4-over-par, with scores of 75-71-74, edging Bradley's Ally Scaccia by one stroke.
"Today wasn't the finish we planned for, but all in all, there were many positives to take away as a young squad," said Illinois State head coach Darby Sligh. "Kiley Walsh was a rock star for us this weekend. I'm looking forward to having a few weeks to continue preparing for Mizzou."
Illinois State's Courtnee Cossell (76-78-78) finished tied for 23rd place. Renee Solberg (79-83-79) and Caitlin Sims (73-82-86) shared 57th place. Abby Luchtenburg tied for 67th.
Redbird individuals Maggie Ambrose (80-85-82) and Leia Atas (90-87-83) finished 79th and 89th, respectively.
The Redbirds return to action at the end of the month, at the Johnie Imes Invitational, Sept. 28-29, in Columbia, Missouri.
