VS. GREEN BAY RESULTS | VS. CHICAGO STATE RESULTS
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team is off to a 2-0 start after sweeping a double-header against Green Bay (4-3) and Chicago State (6-1) to start the spring season Saturday at the Evergreen Racquet Club.
"I couldn't be happier with the way we started playing today," said head coach Mark Klysner. "Playing Green Bay, who was picked to win the Horizon League was a tough match to open the season with, and I couldn't be more proud of how my guys handled that moment. I thought the guys did a great job in competing, fighting and dealing with the nerves that come with keeping this level of intensity up throughout the day."
The Redbird posted a 4-2 mark on the day in doubles. The team of Dylan Steffens and Christoffer Grevedefeated Rowan Isaaks and Miles McDowall of Green Bay, 6-3. The doubles point against Green Bay was taken by partners Jakub Eisner and Egehan Sertkaya as they bested competitors Howard Scott and Joey Leto, 6-4.
ISU saw another doubles win as Andreas Boers and Rodrigo Oliveira defeated the Chicago State team of Christian Gonzalez and Gonzalo Martinez, 6-4. The doubles point against Chicago State was clinched by Steffens and Greve as they won by default.
Illinois State started the day of competition with an exciting set from Oliveira as he battled Green Bay's Florian Kraenziewr, 2-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4). Greve won two singles matches today against Green Bay's Joey Leto, 6-3, 7-6 (5), and against Chicago State's Rohan Wattley, 6-3, 6-2. Greve's partner Steffens was equally successful scoring two singles wins for the day against Rowan Isaaks of Green Bay, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3, and Chicago State's Gonzalo Martinez, 6-3, 6-1.
Rolando Torrellas remained undefeated on the season by beating Chicago State's Christian Gonzalez, 6-3, 2-6, (10-5). Saturday marked the return of Urh Krajnc Domiter who was triumphant against Chicago State's Felix Savard, 6-4, 2-6, (10-5). Domiter returned after a year off from having back surgery.
Illinois State's next matchup will be against Creighton next Friday, Jan. 29, at the Hanscom Tennis Courts in Omaha, Nebraska.
