BEDMINSTER, N.J. – The Illinois State women's golf team concludes its fall season Saturday with final-round play in Seton Hall's Pirate Invitational at the par-72, 5,902-yard Trump National Golf Club (The New Course).
The weather conditions were much more favorable in the round, which allowed the Redbirds to shave off 40 strokes from their opening-round score and move up two spots in the final standings. ISU carded a 323 and finished in seventh place in the 14-team field with a score of 686 (363-323).
South Dakota State won the tournament with a 632 (326-306), 14 strokes ahead of second-place Lamar.
Junior Kiley Walsh paced the Redbirds in the final round with a 5-over-par 77, which gave her a two-round total of 166 (89-77), which placed her in a tie for 15th place on the individual leaderboard.
Senior Renee Solberg, who led ISU over the first 18 holes, finished in a tie for 18th place, after she carded an 83 in the final round to finish with a 170 (87-83).
Sophomore Caitlin Sims produced an 80 in the final round and finished with a 173 (93-80). Junior Abby Luchtenburg rounded out the team scoring for the Redbirds with an 83, as she finished with a 177 (94-83).
Freshman Paige Seiser finished with an 87, but her score did not count towards the team's overall total for the round. She concluded the tournament with a 182 (95-87).
Freshman Morgan Savage was one of seven individuals competing, and she ended the round with an 86, and the tournament with a 183 (97-86).
ISU returns to the links Feb. 10-11 when it begins the 2017 spring season at the Ball State Sunshine Invitational in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
