PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Illinois State men's tennis team fell at Brown Friday, 5-2, as the Redbirds began an East Coast road trip.
"I think we competed well today," said head coach
Mark Klysner. "We didn't play bad, but they just played a little better than us today. We are excited to get back at it on Sunday and play a scrappy Boston University team. I believe that if we play to our potential, then it could be a good day for us."
Urh Krajnc Domiter earned a No. 1 singles victory by defeating Gregory Garcia in a close third set, 6-7, 6-3, 10-8.
The final point for the Redbirds in No. 6 singles was won by
Dylan Steffens as he bested Anthony Orocho in a tiebreaking third set, 6-3, 4-6, 10-3. Steffens is now leading the team in singles victories with a dual record of 13-1 and an overall season record of 20-6. Steffens tied his sophomore best of 13 wins for the spring season. With seven matches left in the season Steffens has the potential to break that record.
Now 6-9, ISU will continue play on Sunday, in Boston, Massachusetts versus Boston, at 11 a.m Eastern time.
