Redbirds Compete in the Florida Sun for Spring Break

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Coming off of a hard-fought match against the ranked Wisconsin Badgers, the Illinois State men's tennis team will travel to Daytona Beach to face Appalachian State and Bethune-Cookman, followed by a match versus Stetson the next day.

"It is fantastic to be playing outdoors again, in the warm Florida weather," said head coach Mark Klysner. "The guys are very excited to see how things go tomorrow and Thursday. The three teams we are playing will all be tough tests and have been playing well. The most difficult test for us is transitioning from indoor tennis to outdoor tennis. Playing these three teams who are used to playing outside will not be easy, but we'll have to start quick in each match and try and get up on them starting with the doubles."

Christoffer Greve and Dylan Steffens will look to continue their spring success, as Greve is leading the team, 10-1, in dual singles victories, while Steffens is following right behind him with a 9-1 dual singles mark. The twosome also compete together in dual doubles and are currently sporting a 6-4 record this spring.

Illinois State, now 5-6, will be facing teams with similar records as Bethune-Cookman is 4-8 and Stetson is 4-6, while Appalachian State, however, leads the competition this week sporting an 8-4 record.

ISU will compete in a double-header at Daytona Beach, on Wednesday, facing Appalachian State at 9 a.m., and then Bethune-Cookman at 2 p.m. The Redbirds will then travel from Daytona to DeLand, Florida, to face Stetson, at home, at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
