Round Two Results
CHICAGO – After day two of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Monday at the par-72 Harborside International Golf Center, the Illinois State women's golf team sits in a tie for eighth place. Kiley Walsh led the Redbirds again through the second round, finishing the day in a tie for eighth place after shooting a 4-over-par 76 for a two-round total of 5-over-par 149 (73-76).
"We tried to make a run today and turned a corner as a team in terms of counting four scores we need," head coach Darby Sligh said. Â "Unfortunately the entire field took advantage of perfect scoring conditions, and we weren't able to move up the leaderboard. Abby (Luchtenburg) came through in a big way today with her even-par round, and Courtnee (Cossell) was able to bounce back when we needed her. Tomorrow is a day to lay it all on the line and see what happens."
Abby Luchtenburg is right behind Walsh after shooting an even-par 72 that moved her total score to 6-over-par 150 (78-72) while placing her in a four-way tie for 10th. Renee Solberg carded a 5-over-par 77 and has a two-round score of 153 (76-77), and Courtnee Cossell also shot a 5-over-par 77 to round out the team scoring for the Redbirds. Cossell knocked off 12 strokes from her opening-round score to sit at 166 (89-77). Caitlin Sims shot an 88 but her score did not count towards the team's total in the round, as she has a two-day total of 179 (91-88).  Â
Remaining at the top of the leaderboard with a seven-stroke lead is two-time defending champion Wichita State, who sits at 586 (297-289). Moving up one spot from third place to second was Indiana State, who has a two-round total of 593 (306-287). Moving down one spot to third place was Bradley with a total score of 597 (299-298).Â
The individual leaderboard currently holds a three-way tie for first place, as Evansville's Kayla Katterhenry (76-67), Bradley's Ally Saccia (73-70) and Wichita State's Taryn Torgerson (74-69) all sit at 1-under-par 143's. Katterhenry's 5-under-par 67 today tied a single-round championship record at the MVC Championship.  ?
The third and final round of 18 holes begins Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. to conclude the MVC Championship, with the winner advancing to one of four NCAA Regionals, May 5-7.Â
