Kiley Walsh Voted First Team All-MVC Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete

ST. LOUIS – Illinois State women's golf standout Kiley Walsh was voted First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete, it was announced Thursday by the league. Teammate Renee Solberg also was recognized, as the junior was selected as an honorable mention performer.

Walsh, who was also an All-MVC performer on the links, currently sports a 3.91 grade point average in the classroom as a Spanish major. The sophomore from Mount Prospect, Illinois is also a member of the AFNI Honor Roll at Illinois State. During the year, Walsh averaged a 75.0 over 27 rounds, shot even par or below par six times and never shot below 80 while capturing four top-15 finishes, including a pair in the top-four.

Solberg is a three-time member of the AFNI Honor Roll and has produced a 3.92 grade point average as a Marketing major. The Wheaton, Illinois native saved her best for last when she finished in a tie for 15th place at the MVC Championship, where she also compiled her best three-round score of the season with a 230 (76-77-77), with her 4-over-par 76 being her best round of the year.

A total of 16 student-athletes received recognition by earning either first team or honorable mention honors. In addition to the eight first-team selections, eight student-athletes received honorable mention selection by virtue of receiving a minimum number of votes. A total of 29 student-athletes were nominated for women's golf scholar-athlete honors.

The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic Capital One Academic All-America® program. Nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team's rounds or played at the MVC Championship.
