Complete Schedule
NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team has released its schedule for the 2016-17 season, it was announced Thursday by head coach Darby Sligh.
The Redbirds will compete in 11 tournaments, with five occurring in the fall, which takes place in September and October, before participating in six more tournaments in the spring, which starts in February and runs through April. Ten of the 11 tournaments will be 54-hole events.
The season begins Sept. 4-5 at Weibring Golf Club when Illinois State hosts the Redbird Invitational. One week later, the Redbirds will travel to Springfield, Missouri, to compete in Missouri State's MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial, Sept. 12-13. After a nearly three-week hiatus, Illinois State returns to action at the Missouri Valley Conference Preview, which will be hosted by Southern Illinois, Oct. 3-4, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
After another long break, the Redbirds will travel to the Palmetto State to compete at College of Charleston's Palmetto Intercollegiate on Kiawah Island, South Carolina, Oct. 24-25. The fall season then concludes with Illinois State's only 36-hole event, Seton Hall's Pirate Invitational, Oct. 28-29, in Bedminster, New Jersey.
The Redbirds return to the links Feb. 10-11 when they fly to Port St. Lucie, Florida, to participate in the Ball State Sunshine Invitational. Thirteen days later, Illinois State will navigate west to Rio Verde, Arizona, to compete in Western Michigan's Rio Verde Invitational, Feb. 24-26.
The warm-weather tour for the Redbirds continues March 13-14 at the Bradley Spring Break Invitational in Farmers Branch, Texas, just outside of Dallas, before they conclude March at William & Mary's Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Virginia, March 27-28.
Illinois State will have one final tune up before the MVC Championship when they take the three-and-a-half hour trip to Bloomington, Indiana to compete at Indiana's IU Spring Invitational, April 8-9.
The Redbirds return to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, April 16-18, for the MVC Championship, which will be hosted by Southern Illinois at Dalhousie Country Club.
"This season we will get a chance to compete in quite a few varied fields across the country," Sligh said. "We love starting out our season at home each year and will look forward to getting out to a quick start. It will also be great to get a preview of our MVC Championship course this October. We are taking trips to Kiawah and New Jersey to finish out the fall, where we will be looking to really make a statement. It's a great schedule to experience a lot of different golf courses, and it will challenge this group in both our fall and spring segments."
