CEDAR FALLS, Iowa. – The Illinois State swimming and diving team had three individual first-place finishes, but the Redbirds fell short at Northern Iowa Friday night, 192-108.
Jensen Keck finished first in the 100-yard (1:05.91) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.43). Maia Cain also earned first in an event, completing the 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.92. Cain took second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.46).
Rachel Root and Savannah Rubocki each had two second-place finishes. Root finished second in the 100-yard (57.63) and 200-yard backstroke (2:06.13). Rubocki placed second in the 500-yard (5:17.81) and the 1000-yard freestyle (10:45.61).
The Redbirds' 200-yard relay team led by Cain, Keck, Root and Mary Katherine Tillotson finished in second (1:48.30). The team of Laura Paskoff, Root, Tillotson and Kristin Verkler earned second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:41.97). Verkler also took second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.01), while Karley Licking touched the wall second in the 200-yard IM (2:11.66).
"Tough meet versus a very good team tonight," ISU head swimming coach Scott Cameron said. "We battled well in our races and showed improvement in some of the details that we have been working on all season. We will take a lot away from this meet as we continue to prepare for our conference meet in a few weeks."
Kelsey Toland finished third in the 1-meter diving event (222.81), while Kristen Larson took fourth in the 3-meter event (188.17).
"Very solid performance top to bottom for the divers tonight," ISU head diving coach Phil Hoffmann said. "There were marked improvements for each diver, which is very important this time of year."
The Redbirds will return home to face off against Evansville in their final home meet of the season, Jan. 27 at 5 p.m.
