Women’s Golf Set to Compete in Bettie Lou Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team returns to action Friday when the Redbirds compete in the Bettie Lou Invitational at the par-72, 6,221-yard University Club of Kentucky golf course in Lexington, Kentucky.

The tournament consists of a 54-hole, stroke-play format, with 18-holes being played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday and Saturday's rounds will begin with tee times starting at 8 a.m. CT. The final round on Sunday will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT.

The tournament field features 16 teams. Joining Illinois State and the host Kentucky are Akron, Ball State, Bradley, Cincinnati, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Illinois, Indiana, Murray State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Toledo, Western Kentucky and Wisconsin.

Last Time Out

Senior Kiley Walsh produced a 6-over-par 78 (36-42) in her third and final round of Missouri's Johnie Imes Invitational to finish in a tie for 19th place on the individual leaderboard at the par-72, 6,204-yard Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Missouri. Walsh broke her collegiate low by firing a 1-under-par 71 (36-35) in the second round by finishing with four birdies. She finished the tournament with a 5-over-par 221 (72-71-78).

The Redbirds concluded the invitational in 10th place after shooting three consecutive rounds of 302 to finish with a three-round total of 906. Missouri topped the 14-team field with a three-round total of 861 (288-284-289), six strokes ahead of second-place East Tennessee State.

Freshman Tatum King and junior Caitlin Sims both finished with season-low tournaments at 229. King carded a 7-over-par 79 (39-40) in the second round and then fired her lowest score of the tournament with a 1-over-par 73 (36-37). King's 73 was the lowest score in the final round for Illinois State. Sims fired a 2-over-par 74 (34-40) in her third and final round. Sims finished her final round strong by playing her last thirteen holes at an impressive 3-under-par.

Senior Abby Luchtenburg finished the invitational with a three-round total of 231 (80-74-77). Luchtenburg recorded her lowest round of the tournament with a 2-over-par 74 (37-37) by producing two birdies in the second round.

Sophomore Morgan Savage produced her lowest round of the tournament by recording a first round score of 4-over-par 76. Savage concluded the tournament with a three-round total of 237 (76-82-79).

Up Next

The Redbirds will travel to Newton, Kansas, to compete in the Missouri Valley Conference Preview, Oct. 16-17, at Sand Creek Station Golf Course. The 54-hole event will conclude ISU's fall season.
