NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's and women's track & field teams have finalized their schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season. The schedule features 12 indoor meets and nine outdoor meets, all leading up to the NCAA Championships, which conclude each respective season.
The Redbirds begin the 2017-18 campaign next week, when they travel to Eastern Illinois on Dec. 8 to compete in the EIU Early Bird Meet. This will be the lone meet for ISU until 2018. The 'Birds will resume competition on Jan. 12, when they face MVC-foe Indiana State in the Double Dual Meet, hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.
For a large part of the indoor season moving forward, ISU will split squads to get the 'Birds in the most-competitive races possible. The majority of the team will compete in two races at Notre Dame, including the Notre Dame Invitational on Jan. 20 and the Meyo Invite on Feb. 2-3. Meets at Grand Valley State University on Feb. 9 and Illinois on Feb. 17 round out the indoor campaign.
The Missouri Valley Conference Championships, hosted by Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, will commence on Feb. 24-25.
The Redbirds will open up the outdoor season on March 23, when they head to Nashville, Tennessee, to participate in the Vanderbilt Invitational. The following weekend, the team will split, with the distance squad traveling to Stanford, California, to compete in the Stanford Invitational and the rest of the team heading to Charleston, Illinois, to partake in Eastern Illinois' Big Blue Classic.
ISU will then return home on April 14 to host their single home meet of the season, the Redbird Invitational, at the Redbird Track & Field Complex.
The Lenny Lyles – Clark Wood Invitational on April 27-28 in Louisville, Kentucky, and the Wisconsin Invitational on May 4 in Madison, Wisconsin, complete the outdoor slate leading up to MVC Championships. The Missouri Valley Conference Championships will be hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Indiana, from May 11-13.
For qualifying student-athletes, the NCAA West Preliminary Round is set for May 24-26 in Sacramento, California. The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will follow from June 6-9 at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
