Redbirds to Open the Dual Season with Two Matches on the Road

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State men's tennis will begin the spring season Jan. 27 and Jan. 28 with respective matches against Butler and Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The team will take on Butler at 4 p.m. Saturday for their first matchup of the season. The Redbirds will face Western Michigan Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The matches will take place at West Hills Athletics Club and admission will be free.

The Redbirds begin the dual season with the addition of freshman Pol Botifoll Rius. A Manresa native, Rius ranks #135 for the Men's Open in Spain. He was recruited by Southern Mississippi, EKU, Gonzaga, Boise State and Denver.

Illinois State concluded its fall season with a strong showing at the Redbird Invitational.  The team totaled 24 wins, improving their combined singles record to 38-32 and doubles record to 16-17.

The Redbirds will be back in action Feb. 2 to host their first home matches of the spring. The squad will face Toledo at 1 p.m. and Illinois Springfield at 6 p.m. at the Bloomington Tennis Center.
