KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Illinois State men's tennis opened its dual season with a match against Butler in Kalamazoo, Michigan Saturday.
In doubles, Christoffer Greve and Igor Kolaric took a win over Aviv Ben Shabat and Ari Gerstein, 7-5. In flight two, Andreas Boers and Egehan Sertkaya defeated Mason Dragos and Sam Sullivan, 6-4. The duo of Pol Botifoll Rius and Cameron Petersen fell by Michael Dickson and Spencer Lang, 6-1
In singles play, Greve was the lone Redbird victory of the day. Greve defeated Shabat, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, in flight one of singles.
Kolaric fell by Dragos in a three-set match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. In flight three of singles Boers, was defeated by Lang, 6-3, 6-1. Similarly, in flight four Sertkaya came up short against Dickson, 6-2, 6-1.
Rius took a loss to Adrian Mag in his first singles match with Illinois State. Rius was defeated by his opponent, 6-1, 7-5. Petersen fell by Gerstein 6-2, 6-4.
The Redbirds will be back in action Sunday for a match against Western Michigan at 1:30 p.m.
