NORMAL, Ill. – Natalia Bravo and Tara Damnjanovic defeated Bowling Green's Marta Bettinelli and Vanesa Pardo 8-4, but fell to Zoe Spence and Cameron Corse of Notre Dame 7-8(3) in the second day of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
Bravo and Damnjanovic started connecting early on and blazed a trail to the second round to face nationally ranked Zoe Spence and Cameron Corse. Corse and Spence are ranked 32 in the country for doubles teams. The two Redbirds fought hard, pushing the match to an exciting tie breaker, but fell short in the end.
"We played great two matches today. Tara and Natalia are really clicking, and they pushed the Notre Dame team until the very end," said Coach Maja Kovacek. "They were down 3-0 but kept fighting and got all the way up to 7-6 with a deuce match point. We came up just short in the end, but it's really encouraging to see them play at this level knowing there's still so much room for improvement. "
The Redbirds will rest for the week and then go back on the road to compete in the New Mexico Invitational on Oct 26.
