NORMAL, Ill. – Women's Tennis finished the first day of the Halloween Classic after playing two singles matches and one doubles match. The Redbirds finished 2-10 on the day and are looking to bounce back tomorrow.
The Redbird's played round robin style, facing a different team for each match. The first match they played against New Mexico in a doubles match, and saw New Mexico State and Iowa State in singles.
Against New Mexico, the pair of Tara Damnjanovic and Natalia Bravo fell to Ruth Copas and Danielle Quevedo 2-6, and Laura Fitzgerald and Jana Kustkova dropped to Lauren Rich and Natasha Munday 2-6.
Against NMSU, Tara Damnjanovic took care of business against Lindsay Harlas 6-2 and 6-4. Laura Fitzgerald also brought home a hard fought win against Gavi Kalaga 6-2, 4-6, and 6-4. Natalia Bravo dropped Harsha Challa 3-6, and 1-6. Jana Kustkova fell to Neus Torregrosa 6-7, and 2-6, and Estelle Vanthier fell to Yadiro Rubio 6-4, 3-6, and 4-6.
The Redbirds came up short against Iowa State going 0-5 against the Cyclones.
The Redbird's will start day two at 8:30 a.m. against Iowa State in a doubles match. They will then play at 10:30 a.m. against Colorado State and at 3:00 p.m. against New Mexico in two singles matches.
