NORMAL, Ill. – The Redbirds finished the fall season on high note, going 3-1 on the last day of the Halloween Classic.
Laura Fitzgerald and Jana Kustkova began the day with a win as they took down Colorado State's Emily Kolbow and Riley Reeves, 6-3. Tara Damnjanovic and Natalia Bravo also faced a duo from Colorado State, but fell short, dropping to Stella Cliffe and Emma Corwin, 2-6.
The Redbirds finished the Classic as they competed against New Mexico State. Fitzgerald and Kustkova were victorious over Harsha Challa and Lindsay Harlas, winning 7-6. Bravo and Damnjanovic also picked up a win, defeating Yadira Rubio and Neus Torregrosa, 6-2.
"Jana and Laura were fantastic today in both of their matches, saving five match points to get the win against NMSU," coach Kovacek said. "Overall, it was a very demanding event. Both the schedule and the teams were tough, but we definitely benefited from the competition. Regardless of the win loss record, these events are what make us better as a team in the long run."
The Halloween Classic concludes the fall tournament season and the Redbirds will be back in action on January 20 as they face IUPUI at home.
