WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Illinois State men's tennis team wrapped up competition Sunday at the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Indiana.
"We had some good results in singles," head coach Mark Klysner said. "I was so impressed to see my guys fight, especially Jorge who had two tough matches in which he won without being given a break for lunch. That showed a lot of maturity from him, which has him playing in the final of his flight tomorrow."
Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe continues to perform for the 'Birds. After capturing the Flight F championship at the WMU-Vredevelt Invitational, Quispe won three matchups on the weekend, earning himself a spot in the Flight G championship Sunday. Ultimately, Quispe he came up short to Radmirovic in a tough match, 6-3, 6-7(4), 11-9.
In Flight B, Pol Botifoll Rius defeated Purdue's Julian Saborio, 6-3, 6-7, 12-10 in a three-setter. Egehan Sertkaya picked up a flight D victory over DePaul's Conor O'Meara, 6-1, 6-3.
Cameron Petersen defeated Butler's Temilope Adelakun, 6-1, 4-6, 10-6 before falling in his second match. After coming up short in singles play, Diego Emilio Moura Herrera took one over Colorado State's Jack Santilli, 6-2, 7-5.
In flight A doubles, Igor Kolaric and Diego Le Gal Perez teamed up to defeat Washington State's Maccarini and Pun, 7-6(3). In second tight match the duo overcame IUPUI's Luetschwager and Jochim, 7-5.
Quispe and Sertkaya took a match over Purdue North West's Kah and Franssen, 6-4, after falling in their first match Friday.
After coming up short against DePaul's Tuff and Wassenaar, 6-3, Rius and Herrera bounced back, earning a win over IUPUI's Saavedra and Plunkett, 6-2.
The Redbird's will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 to compete in the ITA Regionals in South Bend, Indiana.
