NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State swimming and diving team will make its return to Horton Pool this Saturday, Nov. 3, to face off against the Omaha Mavericks. Events begin at 2:30 p.m.
Marketing representatives will be handing out leis and sunglasses to go with the "Luau Day" theme, as these will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis prior to the start of the meet. Fans are encouraged to wear their best Hawaiian shirts and beach attire. Giveaways for the event will start at 1:30 p.m. The first 70 kids, age 12 and under, will receive a Reggie foam hand to cheer on the Redbirds as part of Reggie's Kids Club Day.
The Redbirds and the Mavericks are set to square off in 13 events on Saturday. Two Redbirds – Jensen Keck and Caroline Lecoeur – were recognized on Tuesday, earning Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, respectively.
"I am looking forward to swimming against an opponent that we normally swim against often," head swimming coach Scott Cameron said. "This is our last meet before we go to our mid-season invite, and it's a great opportunity for us to clean our races up and race some great competition."
"I am looking forward to this meet, because it gives us a chance to dive at home and against a very well-coached Maverick team," added head diving coach Phil Hoffmann. "We have had a great week of practice, and I am looking forward to a solid performance from the divers."
The Redbirds will head north next week for the three-day TYR Invitational, hosted by Northwestern.
