NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State men's tennis head coach Mark Klysner announced the addition of Aleksa Lazarevic to the 2018-19 roster on Wednesday.
Lazarevic will join the Redbirds for the dual season as a freshman, previously competing for University of Hawaii in the fall season.
A Sabac native, Lazarevic was ranked No. 1 on the national ranking for U14, U16 and U18. He competed on the national team for U16 and U18, collecting the runner-up title for both.
Lazarevic maintains a 161 best ITF ranking, and won the Adriatic and Ionian Games in Ancona 2015.
At Hawaii, Lazarevic collected one title and one runner-up in singles, and one title and two finals in doubles.
Klysner on Lazarevic: "I am thrilled to add another high level player to our team in the spring. Aleksa was someone I was recruiting while he was still in juniors with his ITF results and rankings, he was someone I really wanted here. I am super stoked that he will be joining us and I expect big things from the tall lefty in years to come"
Lazarevic was also recruited by Cornell, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Indiana, Wake Forest, Boise State, Santa Clara, University of Tennesse and Florida State.
Men's tennis will open their spring season Saturday, Jan. 19 with a match against Drake in Des Moines, Iowa.
