Sims Claims Seventh-Place Tie at Battle at Boulder Creek

Boulder City, Nev. – Junior Caitlin Sims produced an 8-over-par 80 in Tuesday's third and final round at the Battle at Boulder Creek to finish in a two-way tie for seventh place on the individual leaderboard at the par-72, 6,285-yard Boulder City Golf Course.

Sims finished the event with a 230 (76-74-80). Illinois State concluded the event in ninth place, after shooting a 322 in the final round to finish with a 955 (313-320-322). Toledo held their second round lead to top the nine-team field by firing a 303 in the final round. Toledo concluded the tournament at 914 (313-298-303), 13 strokes ahead of second-place Northern Illinois.

Senior Kiley Walsh carded an 82 in the final round to finish in a tie for 26th place. The senior's three-round total was a 238 (76-80-82). Freshman Tatum King and senior Abby Luchtenburg finished the day with a three-round total of 245. King (80-83-82) carded an 82 and Luchtenburg (81-83-81) carded an 81 to complete their rounds. Sophomore Paige Seiser fired the low-round of the day for the Redbirds with a 79, she finished the event at 246 (81-86-79).

Sophomore Morgan Savage, who was one of three individuals competing for the Redbirds, shot an 84 in the final round to finish with a 240 (81-75-84). The sophomore claimed a 30th place tie on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Maria Jose Rojas shot an 86 to finish with a 253 (82-85-86). Junior Leia Atas shot an 88 to finish with a 256 (86-82-88).

"I think we can all agree that today was a disappointing follow up to yesterday," said ISU head coach Darby Sligh. "Even though we were a little rusty and playing in our first event of the semester, we were much better prepared than we executed. It is a shame that the things we did well were overshadowed by the things we did poorly. We have 10 days to regroup before we go back out. We have a lot of work between now and the Rio Verde event."
