NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State's women's tennis team dominated DePauw 8-1 in the first match of the weekend. Today's victory ties the 2007 record for most consecutive wins in a dual season.
One doubles Veronika Golanova and Jana Kustkova took down their opponents A. Seneviratne and M. Breda, 8-1. Following, was the tandem of Ivon Mihaleva and Laura Fitzgerald. They defeated their opponents, M. Galle and S. Wilder, 8-6. Giving ISU their third doubles win of the match, three doubles Valerija Gercar and Estelle Vanthier, was victorious over C. Morris and A. Bush, 8-6.
The Redbirds went into singles 3-0 against DePauw. Missouri Valley Conference singles player of the week Golanova, led the way for ISU defeating A. Seneviratne, 6-3, 6-3. At two singles Kustkova captured the fourth win for the Redbirds topping C. Morris, 7-5, 6-1. Mihaleva following her teammates claimed another victory for the birds, going, 6-1, 6-2 over A. Bush
Newcomer Estelle Vanthier took down her four singles opponent M. Breda, 6-1, 6-4. M. Galle claimed the only win for DePauw with a default decision against Gercar in six singles. Finishing off the match for the Redbirds in the five singles spot Fitzgerald claimed the eighth victory for the redbirds over A. Showalter, 6-0, 6-1.
The Redbirds return to play tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. against Wright State in Dayton, Ohio.
