ST. CHARLES, MO. – The Illinois State women's gymnastics team competed in a tri-meet against Lindenwood for the second time this season, along with No. 25 nationally-ranked Iowa State. The Cyclones won the meet with a score of 196.450, followed by the Lions with a score of 195.175 and the Redbirds in third with a season high-score of 193.050.
"I'm very happy with today's meet overall," head coach Bob Conkling said of his team's performance. "Everyone performed really well on bars, and it was our high point of this meet."
The Redbirds were led in the meet by sophomore all-arounder Gabrielle Cooke, who finished fourth with a score of 38.675. Cooke had a solid performance on the floor, where she held a three-way tie for third place with a score of 9.825. She tied for second overall on vault, with a score of 9.850 and held a three-way tie for second place on bars with a score of 9.825. Teammates Alyssa Wiggle and Anna Marema had strong performances on bars, as they both posted scores of 9.800.
"Gabi had a great meet. She stuck on vault, and had a really strong routine on floor," Conkling said. "We're on the upswing as this is the highest score we've had all year. Our score keeps going up each meet, and as long as we keep doing that I'm happy."
ISU returns home Sunday, Mar. 4, to compete against Centenary. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. inside Horton Field House.
