NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's tennis team dominated their Chicago State opponent 7-0 in the matchup this afternoon.
Doubles duo, Veronika Golonova and Jelena Karla Vujicic, played M. Kostyuk and L. Gamboa for one doubles and won, 6-2. Doubles team Jana Kustkova and Ivon Mihaleva faced off against A. Goncharova and K. Drazic in the fight for two doubles. Illinois State came out on top 6-2. Due to Chicago State's incomplete lineup, our three doubles team Laura Fitzgerald and Valerija Gercar won by default. ISU heads into singles 1-0 against Chicago State.
Golanova finished one singles in two sets, 6-2, 6-2, against Kestyak. Vujicic conquered her opponent Gamboa, 6-1, 6-1. Kustkova played Goncharova in the fight for three singles. Kustkova landed a 6-3, 6-2, victory for the Redbirds putting them ahead 4-0. Four singles player Vanthier fought hard for the fifth win of the Redbirds against Andrews, and came out on top, 6-3, 6-3. Due to Chicago State's insufficient lineup, five singles, Mihaleva, and six singles, Fitzgerald, won both of their matches by default. This 7-0 shutout gave ISU their first away victory of the 2018 dual season.
RESULTS
The Redbirds return to play Sunday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. against Iowa State. The matchup will be held at the Bloomington Tennis Center, located at 4101 Wicker Rd, Bloomington, Illinois.
