NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team picked up a hard-fought 4-3 victory Saturday afternoon over Butler at the Bloomington Tennis Center.
In singles play, Veronika Golanova won 6-1, 7-5 over Bailey Padgett on court one. Jana Kustkova also won at No. 2 singles 7-6 (3), 6-4 to take the first two points of the match. Ivon Mihaleva also secured a three-set victory at the No. 4 spot 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (6) and Laura Fitzgerald defeated Lauren Marx 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-3 to round out the singles action. The Bulldogs also won the sixth court by default.
Butler picked up the doubles point as Rachel Sutton and Emily Neal won a 6-4 decision at No. 2 doubles, and the Bulldogs won the No. 3 match by default. The team of Golanova and Kustkova took the No. 1 doubles match 6-1.
ISU is now 9-4 on the spring and return to action Sunday at UIC.
The Bulldogs return to action with three matches in Florida as part of the team's annual Spring Break trip, beginning with two on Tuesday.
