NORMAL, Ill. – This weekend the Illinois State women's tennis team prepares for a home match up against Butler on Saturday, March 10 at 12 p.m. and for an away match against University of Illinois – Chicago on Sunday, March 11 at 1 p.m.
Last weekend Illinois State defeated UMKC 4-2. One doubles Veronika Golanova and Jana Kustkova and two doubles duo Ivon Mihaleva and Laura Fitzgerald, defeated their UMKC opponents securing the doubles point for ISU. Four singles Mihaleva, five singles Valerija Gercar and six singles Fitzgerald, also came through for Illinois State defeating each of their opponents, putting ISU on top 4-2.
Following the match against UMKC, the Redbirds took on Nebraska. ISU was defeated by the Huskers 4-0. So far this season Fitzgerald has continued to prove herself during her first dual season at Illinois State with a current record of 8-2. She has the best singles record on the team so far and moves between the five and six singles spot.
