Burry Finishes in Second-Place Tie at Tiger Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Senior Zach Burry concluded Missouri's Tiger Invitational Tuesday in a second-place tie, as he shot a 7-under-par 209 (69-70-70) at the par-72, 7,221-yard Club at Old Hawthorne. He carded a 2-under-par 70 (35-35) in the final round including four birdies. This will be the senior's fifth time finishing a tournament in the top-5 this season.

As a team, Illinois State finished in sixth place, shooting a three-round total of 878 (288-293-297). Host Missouri won the 19-team tournament in dominating fashion, as the 40th-ranked Tigers finished with a 25-under-par 839 (275-283-281), 11 strokes ahead of second-place Kansas State and 24 less than third-place Missouri State.

Sophomore David Perkins shot a 2-over-par 74 (39-35) in the final round to finish with a 218 (70-74-74). The sophomore included 7 birdies and one eagle throughout the tournament, good enough for a tie at 21st-place on the individual leaderboard.

Junior Trent Wallace finished the final round with a 4-over-par 76 (38-38) to finish with a 224 (73-75-76). Wallace finished the tournament with 8 total birdies throughout the invitational.

Freshman Daniel Anfield rounded out the scoring for the Redbirds with a 5-over-par 77 (39-38) in the final round.  The freshman fired eight birdies throughout the tournament to finish with a 229 (76-76-77).

"Zach was fantastic this week with under par scores in each of the three rounds," said head Coach Ray Kralis. "He was very solid in all parts of the game and can take a number of positives into the MVC Championship from a very impressive second place finish. Dave Perkins continued his solid play this spring and gave us another solid performance overall. Outside of that, we didn't demonstrate the depth that has been the key to our success this season. We'll benefit from a weekend off and better weather back home, and I am confident we'll tighten some things up with quality practice and be ready to go."

The Redbirds will now focus their attention to win the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, April 23-24, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The winner clinches a spot at one of the four NCAA regional sites.
