GLENVIEW, Ill. -A trio of Illinois State men's golfers - David Perkins, Trent Wallace, and Daniel Anfield - finished inside of the top-20 overall at the 69th annual Illinois Open Championship.
Perkins, a rising junior with the Redbirds, was the top amateur in the field, and placed in a tie for third place overall. Perkins was below par over all three rounds of the tournament, opening with a two-under 70, before following with a six-under 66 in the second round. He finished at -3 with a 69 in the final round, closing the tournament at 11 strokes under par.Â
Wallace, a rising senior, tied for seventh overall and also was under par for all three rounds of the tournament. Wallace opened with a one-under 71, before his tournament-best score of 68 came in the middle round of the tournament. He closed the tournament today with a three-under 69, which helped him rise to a tie of seventh in the field, and was tied for the second lowest amateur in the tournament.

He opened the tournament with a two-over 74, before fighting back with a three-under 69 to make the cut and advance to the third round. In the final round, he shot an ISU-player-best 68 - four strokes under par, and finished the three-day event at -5, tied for 18th overall.
As a whole, the Redbird trio were a part of the top eight amateur players in the tournament.
Illinois State opens its 2018-19 season on Sept. 9-11 when the squad competes at the Badger Invitational, hosted at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
