Redbirds Travel to Ball State to Compete in Cardinal Classic

NORMAL, Ill. – The Redbirds will travel to Muncie, Indiana to compete in Ball State's Cardinal Classic on Sept. 17-18 at the par-72, 6,204-yard Players Club Golf Course.

Representing the Redbirds in action this week is senior Caitlin Sims, juniors Becca Black, Morgan Savage, Paige Seiser and sophomore Tatum King.

Event: Cardinal Classic (hosted by Ball State)

When: Monday, Sept. 17-Tuesday, Sept. 18

Where: The Players Club (Yorktown, Ind.)

Par: 72

Yardage: 6,204

Live Scoring: Golfstat

Format: Two 18-hole rounds on Monday with shotgun start and continuous play, one 18-hole round on Tuesday with shotgun start.

Competing Teams: Ball State, Bowling Green, Bradley, Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Dayton, Evansville, Illinois State, Indiana State, Ohio, Purdue Fort Wayne, Southern Illinois, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Indianapolis, Western Illinois, Western Michigan.

History at the Event: This is the Redbird's first appearance at the Cardinal Classic.

About the Course: The Players Club at Woodland Trails is proclaimed as the best track in East Central Indiana. Its 18-hole course winds players through the beautiful homes of Woodland Trails. The course measures 6,934 yards from championship tees and 5,395 yards from lady's tees. Course is easy to maintain with bent grass greens, tees and fairways. Water is a challenge on seven holes, while numerous bunkers are hidden around the course.

Last Time Out: Redbirds took seventh at home opener, Redbird Invitational. The tournament was hosted at Weibring Golf Club, a par-72, 6,002-yard course. The Redbirds finished the tournament with a three-round score of 928 (312-306-310).

Senior Caitlin Sims led the way for the team, placing in a tie for 14th with a 227 (75-74-78). Junior Morgan Savage played consistently at the tournament, carding a 5-over-par 77 in all three rounds. She ended with a final score of 231, and a tie for 22nd. Junior Becca Black recorded a team-low 3-over-par 75 in round three of play. Black's three-round score of 233 (78-80-75) earned her a tie for 26th. Sophomore Tatum King posted a personal, tournament-best round of 3-over-par 75 in round one. Paige Seiser had a three-round score of 242 (82-80-80). 

Next Time Out: The Redbirds return to action next week as the team travels to Columbia, Missouri to compete at the Johnie Imes Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri.
