NORMAL, Ill. – Redbird Igor Kolaric will represent the Illinois State men's tennis team at the Oracle ITA Masters Sept. 20 through Sept. 23 in Malibu, California.
"What a special tournament this is going to be. I can not be more excited for Igor as it's a tremendous honor for him to be recognized not only as the Summit League Player of the Year but to also be invited to this annual event" head coach Mark Klysner said. "Igor has worked extremely hard this past year and I know he is stoked to play against some of the top players in the country. I know I can speak on behalf of Igor and say that this will be a trip we will both remember for a long time."
Play will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at Pepperdine University and at 10 a.m. at Malibu Racquet Club with round one of men's singles.
Commencing its fourth year, the Oracle ITA Masters will feature 32 singles competitors per gender, whom were invited from each Division I conference to participate.
Kolaric was invited to participate after collecting three Summit League Honors in the previous season. The senior was recognized as the Summit League Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and given a spot on the Men's All-Summit Team.
Last season, Kolaric posted an 18-10 overall singles record for the 2017-18 season, which earned him Player of the Week recognition in dual play. He has played consistently in No. 1 singles since the Redbirds took on UAB holding a 10-4 record in the position. Prior to moving up in the lineup, the senior maintained a 5-1 record in the No. 2 spot.Â
The Redbird squad will head to Western Michigan to open the fall season at the Western Michigan Invitational Sept. 22 through Sept. 23 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
