KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Â The Illinois State men's tennis team collected five wins at the WMU-Vredevelt Invitational Saturday, Sept. 22, in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe and Cameron Petersen earned spots in the championship of their respective flights.
"We had some good hard fought wins today" assistant coach Michal Kianicka said. "We are heading the right direction and are looking to finish on a high note tomorrow with Cameron and Jorge playing for a championship."
Quispe collected two singles victories on the day, defeating Chicago's Tyler Raclin, 6-7 (0-8), 6-4, 10-7 and Valparaiso's Brian Pecyna, 7-5, 7-6, (3-0).
Cameron Petersen picked up two matches in day two. The sophomore produced a round one win over Bulter's Sam Sullivan 6-3, 6-3, before overcoming Michigan State's Ivan Rakic in a tough three-set match, 6-1, 6-7 (0-5), 12-10.
Diego Le Gal Perez earned a flight one win over Chicago's Shramay Dhawan, 6-2, 6-2, after falling in a three-set match in round one. Â
The Redbirds will be back on the court Sunday, September 23 to close out the WMU-Vredevelt Invitational. Play will begin at 9 a.m.

Illinois State will compete Saturday, Sept. 29 through Sunday, Sept. 30 to participate in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
